our 6 step sod installation process
Step 1 - Consult and Quote
It all begins with a phone call or quote request from our website. For all requests, we will first provide you a consultation over the phone. We’ll ask you some questions and answer any of yours. We’ll walk you trough the process and in most cases, provide you a rough estimate over the phone.
Step 2 - Site Visit And Schedule
Once you’ve received a rough estimate and if you decide you want to move forward, we’ll set up a site visit and confirm the measurements. We will give you an exact price and discuss payment terms and options. Once the details are confirmed, we will schedule your project into our calendar.
Step 3 - Removal of Old Lawn
The existing lawn is cut as low as possible. We then use a rototiller to break down and soften the ground. This allows us to remove the roots of the old grass and weeds. Tilling also helps the new sod grow healthier as it aerates and softens the existing ground. Tilling is not required in some conditions when the existing ground is soft.
Step 4 - Add Fresh Soil
Once the existing lawn is removed, we add a standard 3/4 inch to 1-inch layer of fresh screened topsoil across the new sod area. This strengthens the existing soil and provides fresh nutrients for the new sod. This also helps level out any minor bumps in the lawn. Some lawns require more or less soil depending on grade and site conditions.
Step 5 - Lay Fresh sod
Once the soil is added and levelled, we lay the sod. Our sod is cut fresh and is grown locally. We use Kentucky Bluegrass Sod. Once the sod is laid, we roll the new sod using a lawn roller, this helps settle minor bumps in the lawn and allows the sod to attach to the soil. Sod grows best in full sun conditions. If your yard is shady in some areas, we apply a shade mix grass seed over the sod. This helps the lawn grow evenly and fuller in shady areas.
Step 6 - Care and maintenance
Once installed, we’ll clean up the job site. One of the team members will walk you through care instructions for your new lawn and provide written care instructions for your sod. We are also available to answer any questions you have by phone or email. Maintenance packages may also be available in your area. Your salesperson will inform you of these.
